Poll (Participation Required)

Well, right now I am reading a great book called Point of Impact by Stephan Hunter (for those who don't know, and I'll assume that's everyone, it is the basis for the movie Shooter, one of my favorites). The problem is this: I have so many books that I want to read that I don't know what to read next!! For me this has never been a problem, I always know which book I'm going to read next. So today when I was thinking about this (yes, I know it's sad that I think about it), I thought "maybe I'll blog about it and see what my readers (i.e. family) have to say about it?" Also at the same time it's a chance for me to see who else reads my blog apart from my sisters and brothers (hint, hint).
So here is the list of options (in no particular order):

-Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
-Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
-Walden and Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau
-Eragon by Christopher Paolini
-Foundation by Isaac Asimov
-Total Recall by Piers Anthony
-The Folk of the Fringe by Orson Scott Card
-The Worthing Saga by Orson Scott Card
-Treasure Box by Orson Scott Card
-The Bourne Supremacy by Robert Ludlum
-Magician: Apprentice by Raymond E. Feist
-A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin
-Old Man's War by John Scalzi
-The Good Guy by Dean Koontz
-The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley

Obviously I am open to suggestions but will place two restrictions:
1) My book budget is maxed-out through October so I probably won't be able to buy your suggestion (and I don't like libraries)
2) I WILL NOT READ the Twilight series (or The Host), sorry

So thanks to all in advance for your votes and let me know what you think. Also, if you haven't noticed, I have been keeping a list of books read along the side bar of this blog (I actually had to create a separate list for comic books) so you can see what I've read so far this year, Thank You to Lisa Kirtley for that idea.

Okay, I will give you my top three from your list and then I'll add one of my own. Here's what I suggest:
1. Oliver Twist - Dickens
2. Foundation - Asimov
3. Malcolm X - Haley

Bonus - "Gangster" by Lorenzo Carcaterra (great fictional mafia story)

Hmmm...I've read most of those...I've have to check into the ones I haven't.

I'll give you my top three as well:
1. The Folk of the Fringe - Card (I thoroughly enjoyed, or at least it sparked thought in me, all of the included short stories...minus the last one)
2. The Good Guy - Koontz (I let you borrow this one, and i still recommend you read it. It's an interesting premise...though it does seem more like an automatic movie than a novel)
3. Malcolm X - Haley (I read this on T's recommendation, and found it fascinating)

Speaking of maxed out budgets...i've recently discovered some sights that offer free eBooks of classics. Since i just barely discovered them, i'm not sure how great they'll be. I'll let you know.

You should log on to "Goodreads.com" that's what all my family does and it is soooo nice. Send me your email and I will give you an e-vite, and you can see what ranking your friends have given books. I would recommend a book called "Train to Potevka" or any of the Narnia series, that is if you haven't read them.

My recommendation is to go away from the list for a bit and read Scavenger by Tom Savage, The Day After Tomorrow by Allan Folsom (not related to the movie at all) and Dragon Tears by Dean Koontz. Pick them up used on Amazon or half.com. I found all three of them quite interesting.

I have given this a lot of thought and if I can only pick what you have listed then I have my top three for you.

1. -Foundation by Isaac Asimov
Reason: I told you to read this book a long time ago and it is a sin that you have not read it yet. It is a tiny little thing and you can knock it out of the way very quickly. You can never respect sci-fi reading until you read the book that influenced them all. Get R' Done! Besides, it is a good book. I will reread it myself after Empire.
2. -Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini
Reason - The final book in the trilogy comes out on September 20 and it is a pretty good story. The movie sucked, but the books as a set are pretty good. I put this one second because I know how fast you read and the second book leaves you hanging, so you will want to be ready to get the third book in September.

3. -Total Recall by Piers Anthony
Reason: This is a great book. I really liked it. I have read other books by Piers and this was his best for me.
